What is viral marketing ?

Viral marketing is, as the name implies; a virus. Not a nasty bug that infects your system but a friendly one that others want to pss on to recipients who genuinely want to receive it.

I'll give you a perfect example of viral marketing. In 1999 I created a joke site www.clickonjokes.co.uk for no other reason that to create a viral marketing campaign.

Let's say you opt for a joke sent to your email address on a regular basis. You receive your joke and think it is so funny, you send to 20 friends in your address book. Each one of those send it to 20 of their friends ... within hours you could have 100,000 people reading that joke. Think about the impact if your website was advertised on that email?
