Ethical
and Unethical Search Engine Optimizers
Whitehats
& Blackhats
I've compared the internet industry with the Wild West many
times, like all Westerns, there are the good guys in white and the
baddlies in black.
Pretty
soon the phrases White Hat and Black Hat will become an industry
standard description for the goodies and the baddies in SEO terms.
I
like to think I am a white hat, I endeavour to comply with the rules
and regulations of search engines and conduct my website and internet
marketing campaigns as an ethical SEO.
It
is a choice we all make. I think many SEO (search engine optimisers)
start with good intentions and are proud to wear their white hats,
frustration at seeing unethical seo practices gain high ranks whilst
the white hat flounders, can force the seo to change hats and begin
to work in the dirty tricks department ... wearing a black hat.
Yesterday we called them Spammers, today thay are Blackhats !!
SEO is an abbreviation for "search engine optimizer/optimization."
. I doubt if UK internet marketing companies will ever be UK Search
Engine Optimisers! .. It's a contradiction in terms really
because we cannot optimise a search engine, we optimise our websites
in order to gain higher rankings in search engines.
Ethical
UK SEO's provide many and varying services, some will do nothing
other than website submissions whilsts others will offer website
optimization services, tuning meta tags and copywriting. Comprehensive
Internet Marketing
Experts will also provide links with relevant portals and directories
such as Top Resource
and Everything Within.
Watch
out for the few unethical UK SEOs who misrepresent and provide aggressive
marketing tactics and unetihically attempt to manipulate search
engine results. You may have received emails from SEO firms that
start like this; "Dear website.co.uk,
I visited your website and noticed that you are not listed in most
of the major search engines and directories..." or;"
I can guarantee number one ranking in Google ! "
The truth is; no one can guarantee a No.1 ranking on Google. No
UK SEO can have a "special relationship" with Google,
no internet marketing experts UK or otherwise have a "priority
submit" to Google, in fact there is no such thing as a priority
submit for Google.
So
you need to be more cautious of website marketing and promotion
experts who offer too good to be true guarantees, than those who
don't guarantee!

"
Free For All Links "
FFA'
or Free For All Links are also know as link farms. SEO' s that include
"free-for-all" links, link popularity schemes, or submitting
your site to thousands of search engines in their internet marketing
and promotions, or website marketing SEO techniques will cause you
problems. They are useless exercises that won't affect your ranking
results.
Here's
a simple piece of internet marketing logic. You spent time, money
and energy on your website - why would you want to place a link
for your visitors to leave it and spend their money elsewhere?
Submitting
to Google UK & Worldwide - Internet Marketing
Why
can't I get listed in Google?
Getting listed on Google isn't that difficult .... getting found
on Google can be impossible. Firstly you need to submit for free
on http://www.google.com/addurl.html.
Google being a 'spider-based' search engine will automatically visit
known web pages to add to its database. Once submitted, your site
will be visited by GoogleBot and decide whether it should be indexed.
However, a successful submission doesn't mean your website will
rank well for certain search terms. Making your website Google friendly
in order to achieve a good ranking can be done through Search Engine
Optimisation. Take a look at The
Web Doctor for a DIY SEO service.

"
I can guarantee number one ranking in Google ! "
Yeah
!! we've all heard that!
I
often receive emails from people looking for a UK
internet marketing expert, some don't want to talk to me, they
just want costs and details, the majority of those are from other
UK internet marketing experts on a fishing trip. It is impossible
to accept work without talking with my clients. Don't
avoid talking with an internet marketing professional, .ask for
explanations when something is unclear or confusing. Be sure you
know exactly how they intend to "help" you and promote
your website..
While you consider whether to deploy the skills of an SEO or website
marketing professional you may want to do some research into the
individual or company. . Google is one way to do that of course.
Type in their name ... simple, then the company name!.
